North America’s Modern-Day Troubadour

Alex Teller

Alex Teller is a Modern-Day Troubadour from the Great Lakes region sharing sounds of Vintage Country & Western, Traditional Folk, Bluegrass, and Folk-Blues.  His voice has a resonance and lilting warble reminiscent of singers like Marty Robbins, Colter Wall, or Eddy Arnold with a twangy quasi-yodel quality that brings back memories of an old Hank song. Teller’s narrative and poetic lyrics are woven with a sweet blend of Travis style and Flatpicking guitar, taking influence from Townes Van Zandt, Doc Watson, and Clarence White.  His music evokes memories of a distant American past, drawing inspiration from balladeers like Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, and Blaze Foley. He has spent the last three years living on the road in the back of his Toyota pickup, touring the U.S., writing songs, and playing stages nationwide.

Testimonials

“Not so many times as a club owner that someone with such talent comes in & hits everyone in the room so hard including our staff. His voice has a lonesome pain that cuts the room as much as his words do. Like he was holding a knife to us and not a song & guitar.”

- Denis O"Donnell (Whitehorse Saloon)

“It can seem odd to see Alex Teller in full color and not in sepia tones. The Lansing based troubadour's warm, lived in voice and guitar tones evoke a distant American past, and times not necessarily simpler but certainly less frenetic.”

- Earthwork Harvest Gathering

“Alex Teller is a suberb songwriter. His style of writing is reminiscent of classic Americana, but also modern & without nagging cliche. His ability on the guitar pairs naturally with his vocal timbre that evokes likenesses of Townes Van Zandt & Willie Nelson.”

- AJ Fullerton (Producer & Songwriter)

“It sounds counter-intuitive, but Alex Teller’s music is both totally fresh & nostalgic in a very real sense. He draws from traditional American songwriters such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, & Woody Guthrie without sounding like a reproduction of any of them. There’s a true fun & freshness to the songs & performances.”
