About Alex Teller

With his vintage country voice & narrative lyrics, Alex Teller creates music that’s as honest & authentic as the artist himself. Born in Florida, and raised in the suburbs of Long Island New York, Alex moved to Michigan at 19 where he found a jackpot of traditional songs through his deep love for Jerry Garcia & the music of The Grateful Dead. Teller soon started a solo career playing shows & began diving deep into traditional Folk music & the sounds that inspired him the most. Endless nights studying & transcribing the works of writers like Bob Dylan, John Prine & Townes Van Zandt turned into a whole new wave of inspiration & songwriting.

Alex released his debut self-titled EP, “Alex Teller” in January of 2023. The album consists of four original songs, drawing sounds from traditional American songwriters such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Willie Nelson, in both a nostalgic & fresh way. Produced by the artist himself, “Alex Teller” expresses a tasteful classic tone, fitting for an artist who’s roots drink from the deep well of America’s traditional folk music & the lore of storytelling. While shaping & molding the album, Teller collaborated with an all-star lineup of Michigan music legends (including Peter Madcat Ruth, Drew Howard, and Bill Fuller), adding brilliant color & texture to each of his heartfelt songs.

“Not so many times as a club owner that someone with such talent comes in & hits everyone in the room so hard including our staff. His voice has a lonesome pain that cuts the room as much as his words do. Like he was holding a knife to us and not a song & guitar.”

- Denis O"Donnell (Whitehorse Saloon)

“It can seem odd to see Alex Teller in full color and not in sepia tones. The Lansing based troubadour's warm, lived in voice and guitar tones evoke a distant American past, and times not necessarily simpler but certainly less frenetic. Living is hard but always worth it in Alex Teller's songs, and love is right around the corner, hopefully bearing fresh baked biscuits.”

- Earthwork Harvest Gathering

“It sounds counter-intuitive, but Alex Teller’s music is both totally fresh & nostalgic in a very real sense. He draws from traditional American songwriters such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, & Woody Guthrie without sounding like a reproduction of any of them. There’s a true fun & freshness to the songs & performances.”

- Greg Baxter (Second Story Sound)

“Alex Teller is a suberb songwriter. His style of writing is reminiscent of classic Americana, but also modern & without nagging cliche. His ability on the guitar pairs naturally with his vocal timbre that evokes likenesses of Townes Van Zandt & Willie Nelson.” - AJ Fullerton (Producer & Songwriter)
